Life is too short. This is one of many, many lessons I have learned in my year abroad. This past weekend was a tragic moment in my time on this continent. Saturday was beautiful. The food market was amazing and I was so excited for the London Philharmonic Orchestra that night. After purchasing my ticket the rain started to fall. And, as we walked quickly through the rain, a gust of wind came and blew you away.

Your life was so short, too short. You never had a chance of making it to the shelter of the Starbucks. I will miss you dearly.

We first met that fateful Saturday in the Cinque Terra. I had taken the train to Bonasolla for the festival of the Madonna of the Rosary. After only three rain drops I bought you for 3 euro. You served me well that night, and many night for the rest of your short life. Your beautiful blue dome protected me more than I could have ever hoped for. Your strong, ever present black handle inspired me to be a stronger person, and I could not have asked for a better friend.
It was once said,
When the sun shines
We’ll shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be your friend
Took an oath
I'mma stick it out 'till the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we still have each other
You can be my Umbrella

While you blow out of sight due to that gust of wind, you will never leave my heart. I love you. My words cannot say it enough, so Little Miss Sunshine, Rihanna, where you at?
